Environment and place
Our design intent is to enhance the sense of place  or in the case of a nature area not detract from it and in an urban area to repair or improve it. In other words, do no harm. If this can not be achieved, it would be better not to build at all.

Space
Our purpose is to make place using space and materials through the art of spatial design. Space is the primary material. Spatial design adds value for no inherent cost and time spent on spatial design is time well spent.

Materials
We choose the materials that enclose and define space by their fitness to the purpose and for  economy of means. Locally sourced and produced materials are preferable for this reason and also to support the local economy.  Materials that solve the internal and external environmental problem of the design brief with least effort usually also look right in their place.

Energy
We accept our responsibilty to reduce our carbon and energy footprint by considering the embodied energy of materials used and by moderating the building's internal environment by passive means.

Recycling
All building activity generates waste but we try to reduce the amount of waste by recycling  - which in many projects this begins with upgrading or re-modelling an existing building or structure.

EcoProgram
EcoProgram is our ecological action + research project that informs the architectural practice and is in turn informed by it.
